The crimp-vs-solder debate is older than the industry, and the answer is almost always crimp. A correctly crimped contact is a cold weld — the terminal and strand deform together into a single metal mass that resists vibration, thermal cycling, and corrosion. Solder, by contrast, adds a third metal with a low melting point and creates a stress concentration where the flexible wire meets the rigid joint, which is exactly where harnesses fail in vibration environments. Solder is acceptable only for potted or static joints. For anything that moves, ships, or vibrates, specify crimp with a pull-test record, and reserve solder for the few joints that truly need it.
